SUMMARY:Racism & Trauma: How Does Racism Get Under Our Skin?
DESCRIPTION:How exactly does racism “get under our skin?” How does something like racism factor in when we look at health outcomes? When the original ACES study was done\, racism wasn’t one of the adverse experiences identified as the population studied was only 5% black. However\, when the Philadelphia Expanded ACES study was done\, they found that over one-third (34.5%) of adults reported experiencing discrimination based on their race or ethnicity. \nAt the March TCC General Meeting\, we’ll use the film: UNNATURAL CAUSES: When the Bough Breaks as a launching pad for a discussion of racism and trauma.  The film explores birth outcomes\, factoring in economics and education.  We hope you’ll join us for the discussion.  Our panelist include: \nYolanda Ogbolu\, Ph.D. CRNP-Neonatal\nFNAP Assistant Professor Director\, Office of Global Health Robert Wood Johnson Foundation\, Nurse Faculty Scholar University of Maryland School of Nursing \nJan Desper Peters\, MPA\,\nExecutive Director Black Mental Health Alliance \nJoin us:\nFriday\, March 17\, 2017\n9:30AM to 11:30AM\nCenter for Urban Families\n2201 North Monroe Street\, Baltimore\, MD 212017 \nPlease note.
